Take Care of Your Screens & Doors
Looking after your existing products and restoring them to full functionality is a big part of our approach here at Rodens Repairs Flyscreens and Doors. We bring a repair and save philosophy to every job we tackle in Hobart and surrounding areas and that perspective extends into our maintenance guide. Check out our screen and sliding door maintenance tips below:
- Keep tracks clean
Dirt, sand and debris build up quickly and cause doors to stick or rollers to wear down. Vacuum or brush out tracks regularly and wipe them down to keep movement smooth. - Avoid forcing the door
If a door is hard to open, don’t push through it. This can damage rollers, tracks or frames. Address the cause early instead. - Check rollers for wear
Worn or flat rollers are a common reason sliding doors become difficult to use. If the door feels heavy or uneven, the rollers may need adjustment or replacement. - Clean and inspect flyscreens
Gently wash screens with mild soap and water to remove dust and salt buildup, especially in coastal areas. Check for small tears before they get worse. - Lubricate moving parts
Use a silicone based lubricant on tracks and rollers if needed. Avoid heavy oils that attract dirt and make the problem worse. - Inspect handles and locks
Loose or stiff handles can lead to bigger issues over time. Tighten fittings and address any resistance early. - Watch for corrosion in coastal areas
Salt air can affect metal components. Regular cleaning helps extend the life of doors, screens and hardware. - Keep drainage holes clear
Sliding door frames often have drainage points. If these are blocked, water can build up and cause damage. - Check alignment
Doors that don’t sit properly in the frame can wear unevenly. If you notice gaps or rubbing, it may need adjustment. - Address issues early
Small problems like minor sticking or noise are usually easier and cheaper to fix before they turn into major repairs.
